In his search for contemporary modes of painterly expression, he employs the traditional techniques of oil painting while openly acknowledging his grounding in the legacy of classical art. Marcin Zawicki is a visual artist working predominantly in the field of painting and spatial forms, an author of monumental sculptures and stage designs. Zawicki’s practice, rooted in the spirit of realism, engages with the ontology of painting and explores the relationship between reality and its visual representation.
Central to his work is a distinctive creative method: Zawicki’s paintings are based on small-scale models he constructs—miniature three-dimensional worlds, postmodern still lifes, or anthropomorphic figures—which he then transfers onto canvas, often on a large scale.
